August 14, 2011 :: Homemade!
Lorraine bought an ice cream maker a few weeks ago. This is the strawberry frozen yogurt that she made yesterday.

We had a thunderstorm yesterday during the afternoon and I tried to get a picture or 2 of the lighting. It was only lightly raining by us so I could have the camera right outside under an overhang. I put an ND filter on so I could leave the shutter open for 3 seconds to improve my luck. As you can tell by the picture above it didn't help. I didn't get any lighting shots. I missed one because I started talking about something and didn't hit the button, and I missed a second one because it happened in the 2 seconds the timer was counting down. I guess I should get a cable release if I want to try it again. 176 pictures of the same thing! Oh well, the frozen yogurt was good.

July 27, 2011 :: Selling Fruit
This woman was selling fruit and vegetables in a park near Ereğli. I don't usually ask strangers to take their picture but I couldn't pass this up.

One of my calculus students decided to make a finger puppet version of me. I think it looks really good, I wish I was so crafty! The glasses are an awesome touch.

June 05,2011 :: Sunrise at 24mm!
Yesterday didn't have much of a sunrise, but today's was a little better. This is turning into my goto Daily, I had assumed it would be flowers. I'm not sure that I have seen sunstars like this with my 50mm, I'll have to look through some old shots.

I actually took this on Sunday the 24th. It was our first chance to get out on the lake, and the water was calmer than I have ever seen it before.

August 21, 2011 :: A little HDR and masking practice
I was looking for something to work on my hdr (wanting it to look real and not over done) and then these fisherman came through. I thought it would add a little something, but I hadn't ever combined masking and HDR with a moving object. It turns out the two boats that were tied up were also moving so I needed to work on those as well. I'm sure I could spend some more time fixing this up, but I was just hoping to figure out how to do the masking in Elements. I also made a bw version if you care to take a look: http://smu.gs/npPtfi

August 03, 2011 :: Back to the Basics
It has been awhile since I have taken a sunrise. Yesterday provided an OK sunrise, this morning we are stuck in a cloudy mist after a storm in the middle of the night.

June 10, 2011 :: Rhubarb Cupcakes 2
Here is the finished product. Lorraine took this after she put the whipped cream on this morning. She made the comment "you really can't get in very close with that lens, I wanted a really close up shot of the vanilla." I think the time is right to start talking about a macro lens!

July 26, 2011 :: Cookie Monster
Lorraine made some cookies yesterday. I was of course tasked to record and test the new creations. It was a rough job, but marriage is all about compromise.

I spent most of yesterday sorting through Turkey pictures. I think I am about done. I'll post a link once I get them all uploaded.

May 31, 2011 :: Blurred Geese
I was taking some pictures of the sunrise Monday morning (http://themales.smugmug.com/Nature/Clouds/16795842_TxXQ2G#1315082592_qQP8HKX-A-LB to see other images) when these geese made a pass. I tried to make a quick decision and ended up just leaving the shutter speed and hoped for the best.

I am curious what suggestions you have for getting these geese sharper and still getting the sunrise. Any ideas?

The storm the other day knocked out power at school, so my 3 day weekend turned into a 4 day. I'm hoping that those people without power can stay cool. Yesterday and today are in the 90's.

August 25, 2011 :: A Summer's Worth
I ordered prints of some of the pictures I took this summer. I didn't do any big ones, I wanted to see how they looked small first. I don't mind looking at them on the screen, but it is always nice to print them out and look at them every once in awhile.

July 05, 2011 :: Fireworks From the Deck
Can I say that I love our deck? Rather than go out and fight the masses to find a place to fight off the mosquitoes, we sat on our deck and I took pictures of our neighbors fireworks display. You can see more of the pictures here: http://smu.gs/lYZjEa

We are leaving for 2 weeks in Turkey on Wed. Today is going to be busy getting things ready to go.

July 02, 2011 :: Rainbow's End
We had a quick thunderstorm roll through yesterday, and it left this rainbow behind. I'm pretty sure the end is in the swimming area at the park. I was tempted to get out a mask and snorkel and see what I could find.

Thanks for the comments on yesterday's tomato flower! I have really been enjoying the processing. I've never spent a lot of time doing it before and have a lot to learn.
